We are a mixed bunch of enthusiasts from differing walks of life and ages.

Our aim is to make Scottish Country Dancing a highly enjoyable social experience.

Come and join us - in Bridport, Dorset, England.

It's fun, great exercise for body and mind

and you get to meet lovely people in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We usually have equal numbers of men and women.

We meet every Wednesday from September to June at Church House, South Street, Bridport, except for the first Wednesday of each month when we are at Salway Ash village hall.

We start dancing at 7:30p.m. Dancers are requested to arrive in time to get suitably shod and ready for 'off'.

Established members are always happy to help newer dancers with easier dances until the tea/coffee break.

After 9:00p.m. the programme includes new or more challenging dances with our more experienced dancers in mind.

For newcomers their first session is free, then the charge is £2.00 per week. (When there have been enough newcomers we have been known to run a Starter Session from 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays)

When we meet at Salway Ash each month, the evening is a more social occasion with dances chosen from those danced during the preceding month - and there are cakes!

We have a Christmas party in December, and an end of season party at the beginning of June.

In the summer we have social evenings on the last Wednesdays of June, July and August with popular guest callers - We welcome guest dancers from other local clubs.

Other Scottish country dancing groups in the area run balls and social dances during the year which many of our dancers support.

Occasionally we have a special dance with a live band.

Since 1999 Bridport Scottish Dancers have had an exchange arrangement with the Scots Bonnet Scottish Country Dance club from St Quay-Perros in Brittany. Dancers from Brittany came to our Ball in May 2015, and in 2016 they were our hosts for their Ball in June, with a weekend of dancing, food, drink and friendship. In 2019 it is our turn to play hosts to Scots Bonnet.

Our club is managed by a committee of seven, elected by club members at the AGM in April/May each year.

The teaching of dancing and the dance programmes are the responsibility of a sub-committee of callers headed by Ann Prior, our qualified R.S.C.D.S teacher.

We have a Constitution and Rules which are available on request.

A Newsletter is produced twice a year on this website, with paper copies if required.
